If the label said ‘Syrah’ instead of ‘Shiraz’, it would give more of an indication of the style of this wine from a single vineyard in the high-altitude Canberra region. Vibrant cherry and almond, black pepper, liquorice root, black tea and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Dry and relatively delicate in texture, although it has superb intensity of flavour. Light yet slightly noticeable, ‘powdery’ tannin and fresh acidity accentuate the Rhône-style dryness, and give good precision and definition. Excellent - and excellent value, too.
